Construction has begun for removal of the old wood and steel piles, piers and posts, cleaning up the shoreline, removing old light poles and installing a rock revetment wall to stabilize the shoreline. This part of the project also includes cleaning up the property and installing railings along the waterfront and a concrete walkway.

backhoe placing armour stonePhase One encapsulates work required to stabilize the shoreline and is the first step in expanding King’s Navy Yard Park to the south as envisioned in the 2019 Municipal Class Environmental Assessment. The work includes construction of a new rock revetment wall and steel sheet pile walls, and removal of the old decaying marina piles and decking.

As is often the case with new construction, especially when connecting two formerly separate properties, there will be some changes that need to take place within the current King’s Navy Yard Park in order to stabilize the shoreline, and create a seamless connection into the new expanded park. This will include selective tree removal, only taking those necessary to properly stabilize the shoreline as these two individual properties become one.small trees in Navy Yard Park

Phase One Part B the new expansion of the park will include new landscaping, concrete walkways, and improvements for all the subsurface infrastructure required to build out the site.

For clarification purposes there are two separate Ministry approval processes required at the KNYP expansion lands located at 290, 296 and 306 Dalhousie street. These two Ministry approvals are identified below:

1. Phase 2 Environmental Site Assessment and Record of Site Condition, Conceptual Site Model and Certification of Property Use is being filed with the Ministry of the Environment Conservation and Parks (MECP). This process began in 2021 with the submission of a risk assessment. MECP will provide direction on what the Town is required to do to satisfy the Ministry requirements prior to opening up this land as a public park. It is anticipated the decision will be received in 2024.

2. Landmark Engineering Inc. has been contracted to aid the Town in obtaining the necessary ministry approvals from both the Department of Oceans and Fisheries and ERCA for work related to stabilization of the shoreline.

Amherstburg has received approval by both of these agencies and a Tender has been issued for the1st Phase - Stabilization of the Shoreline.
