This park is located near Amherst Pointe at 164 McDonald Street and is named after Warren Mickle, a well-known local nature photographer and lifetime resident of Malden Township, who lived and worked in the area of the parkland.
Warren Mickle Park is located in the flood plain of Big Creek Watershed and as a result, many areas of the park flood or are wet due to the natural topography of the land and its proximity to Big Creek. This has presented some challenges with respect to park access.
Capital funding in the amount of $75,000 was approved in the 2021 capital budget to address park access issues due to high water levels. The Town sought grant funding in 2021 and was unsuccessful. The Town continues to work with the Ministries to seek funding to make further enhancements to the trails and provide improvements to park amenities in accordance with the Parks Master Plan and concept drawings.
UPDATE: The Town has begun work to fix the park access issues due to high water levels, with the approved capital funds of $75,000.
How can you participate?
A second public consultation date will be set in 2022. Stay tuned...
