Let's Talk Community Improvement Plan

The Town of Amherstburg is presently undertaking a number of planning policy initiatives to guide long-term development in the municipality. Centre to these projects is the development of a Community Improvement Plan. The purpose of this plan is to assist the municipality with enhancing Amherstburg’s downtown core and commercial area through a variety of planning and incentive strategies. One of the main drivers of the Community Improvement Plan is to provide a program for attracting overnight accommodations in the commercial area of the Town.
What is a Community Improvement Plan?
A COMMUNITY IMPROVEMENT PLAN (CIP) is a comprehensive and coordinated plan for the redevelopment and revitalization of lands, buildings and infrastructure in need of improvement. A CIP is rooted in public input to ensure it is shaped by local needs, conditions, priorities and resources.
A CIP is a tool that municipalities can use to:- focus attention on areas in need of redevelopment and revitalization
- encourage physical change in a comprehensive and coordinated manner
- stimulate private sector investment through public, incentive based programs
- take advantage of funding and legislation to support community improvement
